Band Releases First 3D Video on Eve of North American Tour
Los Angeles, CA (Jan 21, 2011) – Chicago rock band Plain White T’s have released the 3D video for their hit “Rhythm of Love,” it was announced today in a joint statement by San Diego-based 3D Production Studio PassmoreLab, Plain White T’s and Hollywood Records.
“Rhythm of Love,” the first hit off the band’s newly released album, Wonders of the Younger, will be the band’s first-ever video in 3D. The 2D version is currently spinning on MTV. The single, which hit #1 on the iTunes Rock Album chart, is currently a top ten hit at radio and has already been certified Gold in the US. Sales of the song are far outpacing those set by the band’s previous hits “1,2,3,4,” and “Hey There Delilah,” which have sold over 5 million copies combined. The T’s recently performed “Rhythm of Love” on Good Morning America, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Lopez Tonight, and will make a guest appearance on The View February 23 in support of their hit single and the band’s upcoming Wonders of The Younger North American tour, that kicks off on January 27 in Milwaukee, WI.
Plain White T’s frontman Tom Higgenson says Wonders of The Younger is a collection of songs designed to create a feeling of nostalgia. “We wanted to take our fans to an unexpected place with the record, and that carries through to the 3D video version of “Rhythm of Love,”’ says Higgenson. “You feel like you are on that beach, right there next to us.”
PassmoreLab’s 3D technology was used during production. “It really works well in 3D, and surrounds the viewer with a feeling of summer romance,” says Steve Glum, PassmoreLab’s head of Branding & Distribution.
PassmoreLab has been very busy in 3D rock video production lately, producing all 3D on Slash’s #1 Rock Album video for “By the Sword” with Andrew Stockdale; on Semi Precious Weapons award-winning “Magnetic Baby”, currently on tour with Lady Gaga; on punk-rockers Osaka Popstar & the American Legends of Punk on “Wicked World”; on Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Famer Sammy Hagar on “Loud”; and is also in pre-production on “Run You Down”, the first 3D video for Hollywood Records’ all-girl teen rockers Cherri Bomb.
Plain White T’s “Rhythm of Love” 3D music video is now available for distribution worldwide, and can be seen on the new Mitsubishi 3D reel in over 11,000 North American retail locations.

Production Starts in the California Desert in January
Los Angeles, CA (Dec 16, 2010) – Teen rock sensations Cherri Bomb are going from the sweaty stages of the Sunset Strip to the sweeping sands of the Salton Sea to make their first 3D video, it was announced today in a joint statement by San Diego-based 3D Production Studio PassmoreLab and Madhouse Music Productions.
“Run You Down”, is the second single off the album “ Perfectly Legitimate Use of Volume” and will be the band’s first video in 3D.
The all-girl band, currently in the studio working on their first studio album, are eager to get to work on the 3D visuals of the song, which was written by Noah Lifschey and Ana Lovelis. Production begins in January in southeastern California’s Salton Sea.
“I love this band and I like the idea that they will have a hot 3D video before they are even signed to a record deal,” said Greg Passmore, president of PassmoreLab and director of the video. “The Salton Sea location is the perfect backdrop for the betrayal and redemption of the song, and the girls are going to look great against it.”
With an average age of just 13 years old, Cherri Bomb is being touted as “Rock’s New Generation” and has already created quite a buzz in the music industry, performing at the Sunset Strip Music Festival, opening for Filter, touring with the Smashing Pumpkins and also appearing on NBC’s Nightly News, ABC ’s “The Red Carpet” and Fox’s “Good Day LA”. They are managed by renowned drummer turned manager Samantha Maloney (Hole, Motley Crue, The Crystal Method, Billy Ray Cyrus) head of Superior Artist Management, and were just signed to Creative Artist Agency.
“Every teenager in the country is home rocking out on guitar hero with dreams of rock stardom,” said Samantha Maloney, “This video will give them the chance feel like they are inside the experience.”
The band also just added an upcoming show with Camp Freddy during their 4th annual Xmas Residency on December 17th at the world-famous Roxy Theatre in Los Angeles. Camp Freddy is made up of ex-members of Jane’s Addiction, Guns ‘N Roses and The Cult, and always features guest performances from a wide variety of respected musicians. This will be the first time Cherri Bomb has played with them.
“We are very excited to work with PassmoreLab,” smiles Maloney. “Their indie-studio feel is a perfect fit for us…and now I have a reason to buy the fancy Gucci 3D glasses!”
Always on the cutting-edge of music, art and technology, PassmoreLab produced all 3D aspects of Slash’s 3D music video “By the Sword” with Andrew Stockdale; New York garage-glam phenoms Semi Precious Weapons on the award-winning “Magnetic Baby”; punk-rockers Osaka Popstar & the American Legends of Punk on “Wicked World”; Rock ‘N Roll Hall of Famer Sammy Hagar on “Loud”; and LA art noir group Miss Derringer on “Black Tears”. PassmoreLab also opened the rock-and-roll archives of famed photographer Bob Gruen to produce the first-ever 3D conversions of images from the Rock, Punk, and New Wave eras.
“It’s a rare opportunity to work with an up-and-coming band that has already arrived in many ways,” says Steve Glum, PassmoreLab’s head of Branding & Distribution. “And help establish them in the visual medium of 3D rock videos.”
Cherri Bomb’s “Run You Down” 3D music video will be available across multiple 3D distribution channels in March 2011.

Studio’s “The Extreme Nature of Bats” Wins Best Cinematography at Dark Carnival Film Festival
San Diego, CA (Dec 9, 2010) – San Diego-based 3D Production studio PassmoreLab won another award for their just-released 3D documentary “The Extreme Nature of Bats”, this time getting the win at the Dark Carnival Film Festival in Bloomington, Indiana, for Best Cinematography.

Called the Sundance of horror, Dark Carnival was named one of the top 25 film festivals by MovieMaker Magazine. Hosted by AMC Monstervision’s horror alum & syndicated film critic Joe Bob Briggs, the three-day festival culminated with the awards ceremony, which included 13 different categories. The Best Cinematography category carried 7 competing nominations.
Shot in Texas, Romania, Belize, Africa and Mexico, the film, which explores the truths, myths and dark legends that have stalked the world’s only flying mammal, closely examines three bat species; the free-tailed bat, the megabat, and the infamous vampire bat. It takes an in-depth look at bats as unique and important animals, but because of fear and misconceptions associated with them throughout history, they are also some of the most misunderstood animals in the world.
The 35-minute documentary was directed by Greg Passmore, president of PassmoreLab, and handled all aspects of 3D production out of San Diego.
“It is truly an honor to accept this award for cinematography,” says Passmore. “Three bat species, four jungles, numerous caves, and five countries later — it is especially humbling to be recognized for being able to put it all together, and see the support for this film.”
Using RED camera technology, “The Extreme Nature of Bats” took six months to shoot, due largely to the travel required to capture these bats in their natural habitats, in some of the largest bat caves in the world. Production wrapped earlier this year off the coast of Africa, on a primitive island in the Indian Ocean, netting the crew some never-before-seen-footage of bats.
“This film is far from a typical bats documentary, and continues to create a lot of audience interest,” says Steve Glum, PassmoreLab’s head of Branding & Distribution. “It’s thrilling to see that as we ready it for release.”
PassmoreLab’s “The Extreme Nature of Bats” (www.passmorelab.com/bats) is now available for distribution to multiple 3D channels.
“Ocean Voyagers” Producers Team with PassmoreLab to Bring 3D Version to Life”

San Diego, CA (Nov 22, 2010) – Award-winning Humpback whales documentary, Ocean Voyagers will soon be seen in full 3D, it was announced today in a statement by San Diego-based 3D Production studio PassmoreLab, Feodor Pitcairn Productions and Off the Fence Productions.
The 72-minute documentary, narrated by two-time Academy Award-winning actress Meryl Streep, explores the familiar themes of motherhood and parenting in a world as unfamiliar as it is breathtaking. Featuring a precocious newborn humpback calf and his enormous 40 ton mother, viewers are taken on a 7,000 mile journey of discovery into their world. The story begins in the tropical seas of the South Pacific and witnesses the dangers of animal and human predation – shark attacks, fishing gear entanglement, and perhaps worst of all, commercial whaling.
PassmoreLab produced all 3D aspects of the film out of San Diego, utilizing the company’s proprietary technology.
“This film is beautiful,” said Greg Passmore, president of PassmoreLab. “I think it will translate wonderfully into 3D, giving new audiences a more immersive and personal experience of life in the oceans.”
Previously broadcast in 2D, Ocean Voyagers was produced by Feodor Pitcairn Productions and Off the Fence Productions for Animal Planet International. The five-year excursion was shot entirely in High Definition on location in French Polynesia, Hawaii, Alaska, Newfoundland, The Bay of Fundy and the Gulf of Maine.

“Ocean Voyagers was one of those special projects that just seems to have a little magic associated with it, there were so many serendipitous events that resulted in truly amazing footage,” said Feodor Pitcairn, cinematographer of the film. “The bond that was created between the cameramen and the whales really shows up on screen and it will be even more amazing in 3D.”
Surprisingly little is known about the lives of Humpback whales. Still hunted and on the verge of extinction, Ocean Voyagers in 3D! provides a startlingly intimate portrait of Humpback life through the eyes of a mother whale as she teaches her baby all he will need to know to survive the dangers of the sea.
Ocean Voyagers in 3D! will be released internationally in 2011.

“We found the underground setting of the video quite demanding,” said Steve Glum, PassmoreLab’s head of Branding & Distribution. “The quick camera cuts, sweeping movement, and low lighting gave us some challenges. But the final 3D video looks cool, especially the audience stop-action cuts, where Slash is wailing on his guitar during the solo. I can tell you that Slash in any form is cool, but Slash in 3D is awesome.”

“We converted the original video into 3D for Slash and did the deal with him,” says Steve Glum of PassmoreLab on Morena Boulevard. The Bay Park–based company, founded here in 2003 by Greg Passmore, produced a 3D version of the guitarist’s sci-fi music video “By the Sword” from his self-titled solo album. “Slash was on tour during the conversion but was on top of every aspect of the video. We do many music videos, but this one was special because it was Slash.”
“By the Sword” is set in a postapocalyptic future, in a deserted power plant where music-starved survivors are rocking out to Slash and his band, which features singer Andrew Stockdale of Wolfmother. “The 3D conversion took about four weeks to complete,” according to Glum.
“We found the underground setting of the video quite demanding. The quick camera cuts, sweeping movement, and low lighting gave us some challenges. But the final 3D video looks cool, especially the audience stop-action cuts, where Slash is wailing on his guitar during the solo. I can tell you that Slash in any form is cool, but Slash in 3D is awesome.”
All stereoscopic aspects were produced in San Diego by PassmoreLab, which released the five-minute video internationally in August. PassmoreLab’s multimedia 3D production studio now boasts an extensive library of 3D content for licensing. Among the performers they’ve worked with are Sammy Hagar, Semi Precious Weapons, Osaka Popstar, and Johnny Ramone.
Slash’s 3D video is also screening on television in Canada, and Glum predicts the broadcasts will result in Canadians buying twice as many 3D-capable TVs this year. “They’ll have to buy another 3D TV because their kids blew out their speakers in the first one.”
Rocker Teams with PassmoreLab to Bring 3D Content to Canada on Rogers
San Diego, CA (Nov 9, 2010) – Slash’s 3D music video, “By the Sword”, the first video off of his #1 Rock Album SLASH, which hit retail in April and has received rave reviews worldwide, is now being be broadcast in 3D and available exclusively to customers of Rogers Communications Inc. in Canada, it was announced today in a joint statement by San Diego-based 3D Production studio PassmoreLab & Slash.
The 5-minute 3D rock video, “By The Sword”, is the first video ever from Slash to be released in 3D. It features the vocals of Andrew Stockdale of Wolfmother, and Slash’s signature shredding.
“It’s really cool to be broadcast in 3D in Canada,” said Slash.
SLASH hit the charts on April 6. Featuring an incredible lineup of rockers and vocalists like Kid Rock, Dave Grohl, Myles Kennedy, Fergie, Adam Levine, Chris Cornell, Ozzy Osbourne, Iggy Pop, and more, the album has been critically-acclaimed all over the world.
PassmoreLab produced all 3D aspects of the video, which was released internationally in theatres in August. The 3D video has never been aired before on 3D TV.
“My guess is Canadians may need to buy their 3D TVs twice now because of Slash,” says Steve Glum, PassmoreLab’s head of Branding & Distribution. “They will buy one the first time just so they can see Slash rock out in 3D. Then they’ll have to go buy another 3D TV because their kids blew out their speakers in the first one.”
The “By The Sword, in 3D!” video is set in a post-apocalyptic future, in a deserted power plant where people are starved for music. And that’s where Slash and the band are found mesmerizing an audience.
“Rock ‘n Roll is universal, and Slash is an icon,” continues Steve Glum. “This is a historic moment, a new chapter in entertainment programming, akin to when MTV launched. Everybody will remember that when 3D TV hit Canada, the first thing they saw was Slash.”
Slash’s “By The Sword, in 3D!” can be seen 24/7 starting today on Rogers Digital TV Channel 900, free to Rogers Digital Cable subscribers.
PassmoreLab’s New Psycho Thriller Takes on Orlando After Winning “Best 3D” Award at 3DFF Hollywood
San Diego, CA (Nov 4, 2010) – After taking home first place at the 3D Film Festival in Hollywood last month for their new independent film “Iron Doors 3D”, San Diego-based 3D Production studio PassmoreLab and FullFeedback Productions of Germany will screen the film at the Orlando Film Festival today. The co-producers took home the top prize in the 3D Narrative Feature Film (Conversion) category.
The feature was directed by Stephen Manuel and stars Axel Wedekind. PassmoreLab handled all aspects of 3D production out of San Diego.
“We are thrilled to bring the film to the Orlando Film Fest,” said Greg Passmore, president of PassmoreLab. “Iron Doors 3D is a film that uses 3D to help provide a sense of presence for the viewer, which becomes an integral part of the storytelling given the subject matter of the film.”
The film is a tale of one man’s intense struggle to free himself from inside a locked vault. He has no idea how he got in the vault – or how to get out – but he somehow must escape before he dies of dehydration.
“The way we used 3D in this film really helped to draw the audience in on the intense claustrophobia of the story,“ said Director Stephen Manuel. “You feel like you are actually inside the vault.”
“Iron Doors 3D” is the first collaboration between PassmoreLab and Fullfeedback Productions. The Orlando screening takes place as a part of the Orlando Film Fest’s ‘3D Thursday’, on Thursday, November 4th, at 9pm at the Plaza Cinema Café theatres, located at 155 South Orange Avenue in Orlando, Florida.
